  • Overview
    • Commodity name: Copper wire drawing oil wastewater

Wire-drawing oil is mainly used in the metal (e.g., copper, aluminum) wire-drawing process in the wire and cable industry, where it plays roles in lubrication, cooling, and cleaning. As the wire-drawing fluid is used for a longer period, free acids and alkalis in the fluid gradually accumulate, which reduces its lubricating capacity. In severe cases, this may cause wire breakage—at this point, the wire-drawing fluid needs to be replaced, and wire-drawing oil wastewater is thus generated.

The treatment process for waste copper wire-drawing fluid mainly consists of demulsification, oil-water separation, oil removal, copper removal, adjustment, and oil-water recombination.

    Treatment Process Steps:

    1. Demulsification: Take the waste copper wire-drawing fluid, add acid solution under stirring conditions, adjust the pH value to 1–4, and stir until the waste wire-drawing fluid changes from blue emulsion to milky white turbid liquid—this becomes the demulsified liquid.
    1. Oil-Water Separation: Transfer the demulsified liquid from Step 1 to an oil-water separator, then separate the oil phase and water phase to obtain the separated water phase and separated oil phase.
    1. Oil Removal: Add a flocculant to the separated water phase from Step 2 to remove residual organic matter, resulting in a clear liquid.
    1. Copper Removal: Electrolyze the clear liquid obtained from Step 3 at a current of 1–10 A. Observe until the water changes from blue to colorless or pale yellow, then terminate the electrolysis. Treated water is obtained, and elemental copper is collected at the cathode.

    1. Adjustment: Add a pH adjuster to the treated water from Step 4 to adjust its pH value to 7.5–9.
    1. Oil-Water Recombination: Mix the separated oil phase from Step 2 with the treated water from Step 5, add an emulsifier, and stir uniformly to obtain the recycled copper wire-drawing fluid.
