A plate and frame filter press is composed of alternately arranged filter plates and filter frames, which together form a set of filter chambers. The surface of each filter plate is structured with grooves, and the raised parts of these grooves are used to support the filter cloth. Both the filter frames and filter plates are provided with through-holes at their corners; after assembly, these through-holes form a complete channel that allows the inflow of washing water and suspension, as well as the outflow of filtrate.

    Plate and Frame Filter Press

A plate and frame filter press is composed of alternately arranged filter plates and filter frames, which together form a set of filter chambers. The surface of each filter plate is structured with grooves, and the raised parts of these grooves are used to support the filter cloth. Both the filter frames and filter plates are provided with through-holes at their corners; after assembly, these through-holes form a complete channel that allows the inflow of washing water and suspension, as well as the outflow of filtrate.

There are handles on both sides of each plate and frame, which are supported on the crossbeams. A pressing device is used to compress the plates and frames tightly. The filter cloth placed between the plates and frames serves as a sealing gasket. A feed pump presses the suspension into the filter chambers, and filter residue is formed on the filter cloth until the filter chambers are fully filled.

The filtrate passes through the filter cloth, flows along the grooves of the filter plates to the corner channels of the plates and frames, and is then discharged in a concentrated manner. After the filtration process is completed, washing water can be introduced to wash the filter residue. Sometimes, compressed air is also introduced after washing to remove the remaining washing liquid. Subsequently, the filter press is opened to unload the filter residue, the filter cloth is cleaned, and the plates and frames are re-compressed to start the next working cycle.

    Main Components

A plate and frame filter press is mainly composed of the following components:

    • Pressing plate (movable filter plate)
    • Thrust plate (fixed filter plate)
    • Filter medium (such as filter cloth or filter paper)
    • Filter plates and filter frames
    • Crossbeams (flat iron frames)
    • Pressing device
    • Filtrate collection tank

    Application and Technical Parameters

    • Applicable Suspensions: The plate and frame filter press is suitable for suspensions with either highly compressible filter residues or nearly incompressible filter residues.
    • Solid Particle Concentration of Suspensions: The solid particle concentration of the applicable suspensions is generally below 10%.
    • Operating Pressure: The general operating pressure ranges from 0.3 to 0.6 MPa, and can reach 3 MPa or higher in special cases.
    • Filtration Area: The filtration area can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the number of filter plates and frames used.
    • Dimensions of Plates and Frames: Plates and frames are usually square. The inner side length of a filter frame ranges from 320 mm to 2000 mm, the thickness of the frame is 16 mm to 80 mm, and the filtration area is 1 m² to 1200 m².
    • Pressing Methods for Plates and Frames: Manual screw pressing, electric screw pressing, and hydraulic pressing.
    • Materials for Plates and Frames: They can be made of materials such as wood, cast iron, cast steel, stainless steel, polypropylene, and rubber.

    Pressing Modes

The plate and frame filter press has three pressing modes: manual pressing, mechanical pressing, and hydraulic pressing.

    • Manual Pressing: A screw jack is used to push the pressing plate for compression.
    • Mechanical Pressing: An electric motor is equipped with an H-type gearbox, which drives the transmission components on the frame to push the pressing plate for compression.
    • Hydraulic Pressing: A hydraulic station drives the hydraulic cylinder components on the frame to push the pressing plate for compression.
